Geosentric is a leading Finnish geo-location and mobile social networking service company. On May, 22, Geosentric made a map licensing agreement with a Shanghai-based digital map data provider, NAV2. With this agreement, the users of Geosentric’s application-GyPSii gain full access to NAV2’s China map database.
NAV2 has a comprehensive database of China map. The database covers more than 980 cities and more than five million local points of interests. The huge amount of data stored in the database plays an important role in the roll-out of the Geosentric service in China.
The Olympic Games in Beijing gives one opportunity to Geosentric. It partnered with Shanghai Rannuo and China Unicom to launch its GyPSii service during the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. The company announced this news in Feb. 2008
With GyPsii, the users can have more joyful experience during their Olympic time in China. “A seamless mobile lifestyle experience…” claimed by Geosentric. It will allow users to create pictures, video and blogs focused on the Olympic theme while using their existing camera phone. On May, 11, Geosentric opened one new office in Shanghai. This action is obviously to boost the infrastructure in China and to seek more business opportunities in China too.
The current Chinese geo-location and social networking service is still in a starting period. Until now, it is mainly for personal navigation, automotive navigation, GIS and fleet management use.
